Peter E. Dromms

Peter E. Dromms, 77, of North Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Born in Lansingburgh, NY, to the late Henry H. and Elizabeth J. (Knaggs) Dromms, he was a 1963 North Syracuse High School graduate who attended numerous technical schools. He loved learning anything new. Pete retired after 36 years from Verizon as a technical support engineer. In retirement, he was an armored car driver for Loomis-Fargo. A Vietnam War Navy veteran, he was very active with the Tin Can Sailors and USS Allen Sumner Associations. Pete was a 55 year plus member of the North Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as Chief (1979-1983), and was Officer of the year in 2004 and Firefighter of the year in 1997 and 2015. In addition, he was past president, treasurer, fire warden and on the Board of Directors of the Firemen’s Association. He spent his summers in Old Forge, where he was affectionately known as ‘Cowboy Pete’. He served with both the Old Forge Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. He was known for calling the pushball tournament at the yearly fire school, as well as calling Bingo on Monday nights. A happy storyteller who could chat your ear off at any time of day, or all day, he loved his family and fire department families. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Dromms in 1960 and Linda Distin in 1985. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Gail M. Wilson; daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Burkhart and Patricia (Michael) Moore; four grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Riley and Martin; siblings, Henry “Hank” Dromms, Gary (Shirley) Dromms, Fred (Cindy) Dromms, Judy (Tom) Chwalek and Ray (Debbie) Dromms; brother-in-law, Wayne (Penny) Distin; sister-in-law, Joyce (James) Lillis and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Thursday, from 3 pm to 7 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Services will be Friday at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial, with military and fire service honors, will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
